Xekera manufactures and supplies all types of flexible and rigid-flex PCBs. For constructing flexible PCBs, we sequentially build up layers of flexible base polyimide, copper foil, coverlay, and stiffeners, bonding them with adhesive layers of acrylic or epoxy.
We can make all types of flexible boards, including singe-, double-, and multi-layered boards, with or without plated through holes, and rigid-flex PCBs. We select the appropriate material suitable for either static or dynamic applications. In static applications, the PCB bends only once during mounting and stays that way. In dynamic applications, the PCB must bend repeatably without damage.
We strengthen parts of the flexible PCB mostly around components such as connectors by using stiffeners.
The material we use and the complexity of flexible PCBs makes them more expensive compared to our regular rigid PCBs. As the base material for flexible PCBs are fundamentally less stable than rigid PCBs made of FR-4, we process them in smaller steps.
Mechanical tooling for flexible PCBs varies depending on the volume and accuracy necessary in the project. We provide tooling as below:
- CNC soft tooling—for low volumes, high unit costs
- Steel rule—medium cost for a few thousand pieces, low dimensional stability
- Hard Steel Die & Punch set—high cost, highly durable, very accurate.
