Cloud Solutions:
Cloud technology enables organizations of all sizes to move out of on-premises data centers majorly to cut the cost and increase agility.

All the Cloud vendors are hosted on ‘Infrastructure-as-a-service'(IaaS) and 3rd party host maintains core infrastructure, including hardware, software, servers, and storage on behalf of customers. Where Hosting applications is a highly scalable environment and customers are only charge as they use the infrastructure.

  • Major Players in Cloud Solution:

When it comes to data security and sovereignty is concerned there are 3 major public cloud vendors namely:
1- Microsoft Azure,
2- Amazon Web Services (AWS),
3- Google Cloud Platform.

In this article, we talk about Azure and AWS only.

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Amazon, a world-leading cloud provider came in 2002 into the market and became the clear market leader globally.

The Amazon Web Services (AWS) majorly works on ‘Infrastructure-as-a-service'(IaaS) and ‘Platform-as-a-service (PaaS) architecture. It has a market share of 33 percent.

  • Microsoft Azure:
    • The Launch:

Microsoft did not come to the cloud market until 2007 but after Amazon’s success as they believed that cloud is the only trend that will fade away with the passage of time.
Microsoft officially launched Windows Azure (The old name of Microsoft Azure) on October 27, 2008, at Professional Developers Conference (PDC) in Los Angeles, which was compatible with Linux and Windows.

    • Insights:

Half of Azure VMs are running on Linux and not Windows Server, there are 54 Azure regions worldwide. Azure has not moved some key cloud services like Exchange, SharePoint, etc. however newer Office 365 services do run on Azure.

  • Azure at present:

Despite being no 2 vendors in the cloud industry, Azure is the most popular choice of C level executives due to the fact it offers long-standing relationships with customers, and customers can also know that they can consume all enterprise computing in one place, secondly Azure makes a unique combination with Teams and Office 365.

  • Azure vs AWS which one is better?

It is subjective when it comes to choosing one cloud vendor over the other, as it depends on needs and wants.
However, companies use multi providers within different parts of their operations which is also known as ‘Multi-Cloud Approach’.

Now Azure servers are more scalable and Linux-centric making Azure one of the leading cloud providers in the world.
AWS has bigger capital, more infrastructure, and more scalable services than Azure did, but things changed rapidly in favor of Azure.

Microsoft revamped services and offered better support throughout programming languages and operating systems. According to 2020 surveys, Azure has a market share of 29.4 percent which was 16 percent in 2018. The AWS had an edge, but the comparison is not as straightforward as it sounds.
